(FIXED) New Potion Quest bugged
(FIXED) New Potion Quest bugged
Well the Royal Alchemist is not handing out a new quest but rather handing out 3000 xp and a focus token for 25k gold without doing anything and apparently this can be repeated multiple times (although I have no tried to actually follow through with it). Interesting implement but probably needed some further testing before release. The ability to change is nice but at the same time it would be awesome to have a second one lol the potion upgrades are all too good to pick and choose just one
Re: New Potion Quest bugged
With the latest fix the quest becomes available with actually needing the items now but the reward is bugged to where it gives the new stone then takes both. On top of that, the new quest is overwriting the low level one for those that have not done it. Rose tested with her toon and she was able to get the new quest even though she has not done the low level one yet. I have not however tested it on a toon that is lower than level 20 to see if it is overriding it entirely or not.
Upon further discussion about it with Rose as well, it seems that the quest reward is fairly underwhelming for the challenge level of the quest. 3k xp is a low reward for an epic quest considering that most bounty quests at that level are at minimum 3500. I also can't really justify spending 25k gold just to have the option to change my mind on the potion enhancement. It is a nice idea when a certain type becomes irrelevant like the haste for example or balance when you have a caster in the party. Considering the potion options however, most classes will only debate over one or two and ultimately go for the potion that will benefit them most in the long run and not have the need nor want to change.
To use my barbarian as an example, the haste enhance would be nice to enhance his ability to fight, but for survivability sake, the shield pot is ultimately his best option. +6 shield ac with no shield option available for wielding a two-handed weapon, helps offset his relatively low ac and changing to an extended haste pot only helps him kill faster for longer while using less potions rather than avoid getting beaten to death. There are other potion options that are also very tempting but ultimately don't beat +6 ac in the long run since a caster can cover the other potions easily enough.
I could go more into a specific debate but this is long enough as it is and I'm sure the point is mostly stated. The quest overall is a nice idea, but probably just needs a bit more incentive to actually do it.

Howdy )
OK, ill look into the bugs after work...
As for the quest the ability to ENDLESSLY alter ones potion specialty for the occasion is by far well worth mere 25k that you will get quite easely at level 20+
The quest requirements are "extremely easy" considering that all areas are farm areas and thus all it requires to do is to farm the crystals once in the respective areas - thus the 3k reward as basically it is completely free 3k extra for no extra job.
If people dont want to do the quest or see no need for it, by all means... dont. I will personally at epic level love the ability to change my alchymi focus whenever i please and 3k XP for doing what i would have done anyways is just fine with me

Re: New Potion Quest bugged
Well, my toon is level 22, and it still take me forever to make that much gold. I do not think it worthwhile to do epic areas just for the opportunity to spend more gold on something I do not need.
Just a suggestion for the heal potion enhance. It would be nice if it was possible to enhance the cure wound potions as well. I find that the druid's heal potions are too slow to heal, no visual effect, and too hard to get, especially if not using a main toon. I find it easier to drink 3 or 4 cure critical potions.

Re: New Potion Quest bugged
Well I guess it all depends on how you look at the quest reward. The ability to change the focus at will is easily exploitable in which you can drink your enhanced potion, switch, drink the next potion, switch etc. then go out adventuring with the enhanced duration potions and ability to heal. This is even further able to be exploited in a group since you can easily do the full swap then port to leader and even after a rest or the buffs wearing off, port back, repeat and continue the adventure. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of being able to switch if the situation demands it or a certain potion buff becomes irrelevant but it just kind of feels underwhelming unless exploited, which I am sure was not the intent. If the reward came with a second focus and the ability to switch at a cost, then it would definitely be a better reward and less exploitable. Just my thoughts.
Re: New Potion Quest bugged
Hmm visual effects might be possible to add to the druid heals, so ill look at that.
Being random drop they are still far superior to "cure critically wounds" and one need to remember that using them mean 3 heals over 3 rounds where you can fight normally meanwhile, which you cannot when you just stand there using pots. As for making more potions more powerful I think its a really bad idea. basically the MASSIVE enhancements on potion and low level heals already means an lot less demand for healers and I want a world where an epic adventure would require a healer/semi healer or at least an obscene amount of smaller potions or/and regen downtime.
The world is not ment for singling in the toughest areas and it is ment for balanced groups and healing is one of the few weaknesses of warriors and should remain a factor.
Finally some quests may indeed not be "worth the time" for an reward for all classes or players but that does not mean they are bad. It just means some classes an compositions perhaps are more versatile and have less need for this.
...
As for the exploit i did indeed not think of that. The "exploit factor" of the PC tool has many balance implications which have also ment I am more and more switching to leaning towards removing the current "spells and powers are ready on login, but you go back to start area". Basically this has no meaning with the PC tool in game and only means that 2 players can have the caster running on 100% basically all the time - which is again not the intention. toward the idea of some 500g cost for switching focus but rather than 2 powers I am in the thinking box for something else...
Basically 2 permanent powers is once again granting the warriors too much power of spell use.
We will see - regardless I will fix the quest today so there are no bugs in it.
/tara
This I will likely be leaning

Re: New Potion Quest bugged
Oki, the decision was fast done as I remembered another idea i had earlier on.
Basically now the Focus Stone makes it possible to change Alchymi stone endlessly at the cost of 1000 gold per time.
This grants player freedom and flexibility but counters the mentioned exploit.
The real "force" of the Focus Token however is its various powers depending on the actual potions. Observe that these below powers are simoultaneously and permanent and not depending on the specialisation of the Alchymi Stone.
----
Juice, Mixture and Elixir of healing = 25 % of renewing the potion.
Potion of Balance = 25 % chance of renewing the potion.
Potion of Hurricane = 25 % of granting +2 minutes duration.
Potion of the Forest = 20 % of summoning a potion of the Forest ( its lowered to 20% since this also affects casting barkskin )
Shield Potion = 25 % chance of summoning a Shield Potion ( except if you are level 15+ in Bard, Sorcerer or Wizard since they already summon one per default on spell cast. )

Re: New Potion Quest bugged
Ok this new bit of information makes this more worthwhile and with the exploit fix is not bad. As far as warriors having too much use of spells via potions, I think having a caster in the group is far superior to a warrior using the potions even if ALL the potion enhancements were active at once. A caster's durations are much higher than the potions and are far superior in terms of buffing (with the exception of the shield one which is self buff only).
For example:
With a druid like Halande in the party, he eliminates the need for the warrior to use up haste potions, forest potions, mind-immune potions, knockdown potions and even healing potions (for the most part). With a wizard or sorcerer it is the same except for forest potions, and healing but they can provide shield potions to the warrior. A cleric does everything depending on domains taken and adds much needed buffs that are not available on any other class or available in potion form.
The potions therefore are mainly to help be able to play solo when a caster is not available to fulfill these roles with the exception of the shield potion which aids two handers, dual wielders, archers and other classes unable to use a shield.
